

One of those was with Pulitzer Prize winner Caroline Shaw. At 30 she was the youngest recipient of the prize for composition. Julian Day presented The Music Show for a few weeks in the middle of the year, and we ran a series of conversations he'd had with prominent New York composers. There's a film about this journey too, and you can watch the trailer here. The songs were inspired by the stories of the people who used to live in these wild, remote places. They recorded it on St Kilda, an uninhabited island in the Outer Hebrides, after a long sea journey by tall ship. Their new album Air Iomall means 'on the edge' in Scottish Gaelic. They play original songs that could pass for trad tunes much of it improvised in live performances. Charlie Grey and Joseph Peach are a piano/fiddle duo from the Scottish Highlands (although both are now based in Glasgow).
